Youth Resentencing Project

Some 270 Marylanders are serving life or life without parole sentences for crimes committed before reaching age 18. Many more were sentenced to very long sentences which are the equivalent of a life sentence. Recent Supreme Court cases though give hope that many of these men and women will have a chance at re-sentencing; an opportunity for the first time to tell their stories to judges who will decide if a reduced sentence is appropriate based on new information including the emerging science of adolescent brain development and the evolving standards of decency which counsel against such harsh sentences for children.

We work as a team - attorneys, social workers, staff, and outside experts - to fight for reduced sentences for our juvenile clients, many of whom have spent decades in prison. If you or a family member or friend may benefit from our expertise, we encourage you to contact us.  We also welcome inquiries from attorneys and students seeking volunteer opportunities.
